I was invited to be an extra in Torreya Cummings’ film, Barbary Coast Keelhaul. There wasn’t much for me to do aboard The Balaclutha, a full-rigged ship built in 1886 to move grain or salmon or lumber from one Pacific place to another. Ergo, an amazing sunset picture.

Sometimes, wildlife sits right in front of your window. The boys and I identified this beauty as a juvenile Cooper’s Hawk. They were only on the truck for about 10 seconds before flying back towards the wetlands.

Though the full menu is not available yet, the bites Stefan and I tried at Above Fifth @achotelsanrafael were fresh and well-executed.

Second image is Dungeness crab on endive which was my favorite of the evening.
The team and space are still coming together. There were a few bumps. The views of Mt Tam are lovely. The bar was as busy as the lounge areas. Bring a sweater to ward off fog breezes at dusk.

We all look like goofballs in this picture (Lukas got cut out somehow) and the rainbow colors are not sparkly but it was a great moment. Niki nearly swallowed the rainbow and the third image is probably best for true color.

I’m sure all y’all already know this but Jersey has a burgeoning food scene AND Anthony Bourdain grew up two towns over from where I grew up (Leona/ Tenafly). I’m always thrilled when I find local products while I’m in-state. At the Closter Whole Foods, I found not only Jersey peaches (the BEST—sorry, Georgia, your winters aren’t cold enough for complex flavor development in stone fruit) but locally-made BBQ sauce. Yay, Jersey!
